Description
Momentary stillness during intense sword practice: Steel Heart is focused and concentrated, alert and aware.Maybe the same character from another of my drawings called “Will of the One, though in a somewhat older and wiser guise, with the contained rage of a tiger in those eyes and an iron grip on discipline and swordsmanship.
It required sunshine through a window and the mirror for reference (together with some artistic license), and Steel Heart received a physique to match his hard character.
The detail in the sword engraving is almost a counterpoint to the unyielding stare, with intertwining thorned branches along the length of the blade, peaking with a rose and finally a bull’s head and dragon near the hilt.
The addition of a background was an experiment in setting a scene for one of my favourite characters, drawn in pencil on a separate paper then composited in Photoshop.
Pencil drawing, 30x40cm.

did you use any photo's for reference? Or what did you look at while drawing this? The vein's are a bit disturbing but I can imagine that they would stick out after a hard workout with the sword. I see though that your going for a serene and contemplative look on his face. I do not feel that from him his gaze seem's very intense to me. Perhap's a more open look to his eye's would have given that effect more.
Feel free to check out my gallery! Hope I was helpful and do not hurt any feeling's (but your a good artist so you probably apreciate an attempt at a helpful critique I know that when I used to ride horses I the better I got the more I complained that I wasen't critiqued enenough) so even though I'm not as good an artist as you I feel that if I say what I think you will know how to use it.

A little point I don't like are the veins on his lower arm, there might be too many. Though I think that's just my taste. Nothing else. Still a great work.
